I am attempting to rejuvenate a Dimension 3000. I do NOT have the original disks. I have formatted the HD and installed XP Home from another disk for a computer (not Dell) that is long dead. The software installs just fine, but none of the peripheral drivers install at all.
I downloaded all the drivers for this computer and tried to install the ethernet controller driver. The message I get is that there is no information file associated with that device. Either I don't have the drivers downloaded properly or I am missing some critical component that I don't know about. This computer is for a marvelous, bright 14 year old who needs it for school. Okay fred heres the deal, I think I have it mostly figured out. The 1st thing i figured out is i did not have the.net framework installed, i am pretty sure this allows for the other files to be dl in an exe format. What you need to do 1st is get that dl accomplisehed.

I did this by dl a driver update utility called driver detective, the dl is free and it will 1st dl the.net framework for you then install itself to help you determine what drivers you need. Here is a link to a free dl of this software,. However after it runs its scan it will want you to pay for the program to dl and install them.

I did not do that, one i got the framework installed, i was able to dl the files like stated on this post, they are exe files that will do the rest of the work like we are used to seeing, the type that has been referred to. If you wan I guess you could poay the 30 bucks and let the program do it as well, might be easier for you, but I decided not to waste my money once i figured out what i needed., good luck and let me know how it works out.
